September 19, 1988: Women's 400m Individual Medley Swimming, 1988 Seoul Olympics
This was the Olympic swim race that introduced the world to American distance swimmer Janet Evans of Placentia, California. She won the first of three individual gold medals in the 1988 Olympics, her first Olympiad, in this race. Her ability to keep going without a break earned her the nickname "Miss Perpetual Motion."
